If you can achieve NCLC 7+ in French (TEF Canada or TCF Canada), you gain up to 50 additional points. You also become eligible for French category draws with cutoffs as low as 393 — making an ITA far more likely even with a lower CRS.
Each year of Canadian skilled work experience adds significant CRS points. If you are already in Canada on a work permit, every year worked improves your score. 5+ years of Canadian experience gives the maximum points.
Completing a 3+ year degree or a Master's program at a Canadian institution adds 30 additional CRS points. A 1–2 year program adds 15 points. This also makes you eligible for the Canadian Experience Class after graduation.
A valid job offer from a Canadian employer adds 50 points (NOC TEER 2/3) or 200 points (NOC TEER 0 senior manager). The job offer must be LMIA-backed or exempt. Use LinkedIn, Indeed Canada, and Job Bank Canada to find opportunities.
If you are married, calculate which partner has the higher CRS score as the principal applicant. Sometimes switching the lead applicant gains 20–40 points. Also ensure your spouse's profile (education, language, work) is fully optimised as it contributes to your score.
If your foreign degree has not been officially assessed, your education points may be lower than they should be. Use WES, ICAS, or another IRCC-designated organisation to get your credentials evaluated. This can unlock the full education points you deserve.
If you or your accompanying spouse has a brother or sister who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada, you get 15 additional CRS points. These are easy points often overlooked.
